Hey Friends! Finally, after a couple years of “meaning to get to it” we’ve got our Blog up and running! Check in here for updates on the Salmon run, Eagle number, new Fergie’s recipes and other news from the Outdoor Adventure Capital of North America!

Fall Colours & Change of Seasons at Sunwolf!

Fall Colours & Flood Waters!

Fall and winter at Sunwolf is a great time of the year. After the hustle and bustle of the summer (which we love!), it’s always nice to see things slowing down, rivers rising with the rains, leaves changing colour and the Salmon spawning. It’s this time of the year we see a lot of the local fishermen coming around, telling us stories of their “catch of the day” or lack thereof sometimes! But usually there’s something to talk about if not the weather.

Fergie’s Cafe slows down it’s hours to Thursday to Sundays, and switches gears on the menu from summer flavours to the classic fall/winter comfort foods! Beef stews, waffles, meat pies, home-baked goods & delicious sausages! Although some things change, the classics never leave such as our famous Pulled Pork Benny and the Spicy Southern Salami Hash. We’re pumped to have Pixie, John, Brad, Dustin and Stephanie in there crankin out the goodness!

Alright…Food aside (sorry, we get a little wrapped up in that around here), we’ve got a lot going on this fall here at Sunwolf. I mentioned the Salmon. Well, right now there’s Chum & Coho Salmon running along with Dolly Varden and Trout! Sunwolf has an old following with the fishing crowd from the days when it was Fergie’s Fishing Lodge. There’s still fishermen(and women!) coming to the banks of the Cheakamus who came here as a young anglers with their parents. Hence the name Fergie’s Cafe.

Soaring Bald Eagle

Also something to note that’s great for the whole family is our Bald Eagle Viewing Floats! Why walk the banks of the Squamish with the crowds when you can float the Cheakamus in peace and quiet?? So not total peace & quiet, as you’ll see and hear Eagles fighting over salmon, dive bombing the river for their food, soaring overhead, or just perched int he trees above! Not that long ago, Brackendale had just over 3600 Bald Eagles nesting here. After an unfortunate rail accident, the number was decreased to less than 1000 because their food-source, the Salmon, had been depleted. Now the Eagle are returning and they’re coming back stronger than ever! So if you find yourself sitting around looking for something to do this fall join us on an Eagle Float beginning Nov 16!

That’s whats happening around here these days and hope to see you around!

–Team Sunwolf

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SUNWOLF Announces Partnership with 1% for the Planet!

May 3, 2011 – Brackendale, BC,– Sunwolf joined 1% for the Planet (1%), pledging a portion of its sales to support non-profit organizations focused on sustainability.

“Sunwolf is a great addition to the network. By signing on to 1%, it shows they’re really walking the walk in their sustainability efforts,” says Terry Kellogg, 1% CEO. “They’re using generosity as a tool with which to build their business and enabling valuable environmental work along the way. We’re excited to welcome them to the 1% family.”

“We’re a small company owned by 4 individuals who work and play on the rivers and in the mountains. It seemed like a really easy, small thing for Sunwolf to do, but something that will make a big impact to the organizations trying to make a difference,” says Andrew Slater, one of Sunwolf’s owners.

Members of 1% contribute one percent of revenues directly to any of the approved non-profit environmental organizations in 1%’s network. Non-profits are chosen based on referrals, track record and environmental focus. Over 2,300 non-profits worldwide are included in the 1% program.

“We’ve been averaging at least one new business member a day, and have exceeded 1,350 members in 43 countries. 1% members have contributed over $70 million of critically needed funds into the hands of environmental non-profit groups to date,” comments Kellogg. “We are thrilled by the support we have gained as it proves the environmental ethic is trickling upward to larger corporate entities. The shared belief that you can do well as a business by doing the right thing with respect to the environment is clearly apparent. There’s a paradigm shift happening here and it’s happening organically.”

About 1% for the Planet

Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder and owner of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet is a growing global movement of over 1,350 member companies in 43 countries that donate one percent of their sales to environmental organizations worldwide. Each day, more than one new business joins the 1% for the Planet movement. As a network, the 1% community has become a frontrunner in funding the work of environmental groups around the world.
