At Sunwolf and Fergie’s Cafe, we are committed to responsible tourism and sustainability across our operations. With our connection to nature and the local community, we understand the importance of balancing both our business needs with the social and environmental impacts of our operations. We have joined Green Tourism Canada to indicate our commitment to sustainability and to receive guidance in our long-term goals.
Our staff, management team, and property owners are continually working to implement best-practice strategies to achieve these goals. Here are ways we can help you host an environmentally responsible meeting.
Assign a Green Team leader
This green delegate can act as the go-to for all your staff’s questions about recycling, energy use and take ownership of the meeting’s green initiatives. Keep your organization and delegates informed of the environmentally responsible decisions you’re making for your meeting.
Rideshare, bus or shuttle to our location and to offsite activities
Plan any activities local whenever possible.
Consider hosting conference materials online or on flash drives to reduce paper use
If printing is required, use post-consumer paper, low-bleaching, bio-safe vegetable based inks or simply print double sided. Print one or two items per table to be shared, where applicable.
Plan to use our outdoor space
We have a beautiful, natural environment; we encourage all our guests to connect with nature during their stay. We encourage keeping any team building exercises low impact and local. Please ask us for a list of environmentally responsible activities and operators.
Use natural light whenever possible
All our lighting is high-efficiency LED lighting, but we also have large windows that allow for great natural lighting. Turn off lights when not in use.
Consider reusable meeting and brand materials
Use signage and decor that can be reused in future years and/or throughout the conference by not being date or location specific. Avoid using any plastic or vinyl materials.
Think local: reduce shipping by using local suppliers for any materials
Please ask us if you’re in need of something specific
Promote reusable coffee mugs. Please avoid bringing paper or plastic cups onsite
We will provide reusable mugs with ID tags if needed.
Consider using onsite catering for veggie trays and other snacks
Most store bought snacks and trays use a lot of plastic packaging. Avoid individually wrapped snacks and paper napkins. We can supply reusable cloth napkins as needed.
Reuse your linens as much as possible throughout the conference
Stick to cotton linens: refrain from using vinyl or other synthetic products.
Plan green activities or community projects, like a shoreline cleanup
Consider hosting a green speaker to inspire your staff
